British Columbia solar label kits
You will read that BC Hydro fails a red tag. Its current standard does not say that — DGTIR-100 sets no colour or size for labels. Its sample drawing shows the disconnect ID labels black on white, and some inspectors ask for that. Here is what each document says.

What BC Hydro sets
DGTIR-100 Rev. 3 (July 2026) — BC Hydro's distributed generation technical interconnection requirements — asks for permanent, legible labels: a unique identifier on each DG System Disconnect (DS-DG1, DS-DG2 and so on), a “Two power source, parallel system” warning, and a label saying where the DG disconnect is. It sets no colour and no size.
BC Hydro's sample net-metering single-line drawing, marked SAMPLE, draws the disconnect ID and location labels black on white and the two warnings red. Some inspectors treat that as the expected look. FortisBC Rev. 14 applies in FortisBC territory and sets no colour either. Tell us which utility the job connects to before the kit is cut.
Where the black-on-white rule came from
The black-on-white 3.5″ × 1″ figure is from BC Hydro's NMIR R1 (2013), which has been superseded. It applied to the revenue-meter notice “TWO POWER SOURCE, PARALLEL SYSTEM”, not to the disconnect identifiers. The CEC photovoltaic warning sign stays white on red under Rule 64-200(3).
White on red, the whole kit. BC Hydro’s two ID labels — DG SYSTEM DISCONNECT and DG ISOLATION VIA DG SYSTEM DISCONNECTS — are extras in the builder, cut black on white the way BC Hydro’s sample drawing shows them, for the inspectors who ask for that.
