Nova Scotia solar label kits
Nova Scotia Power's Bulletin B-64-200 took effect 2 July 2024 and its wording governs over the generic CEC text in NSPI territory. It also changed a sentence most catalogues, ours included for now, still engrave the old way.
262 square inches of phenolic. Microinverters are 16 plates.
Including 4 that exist nowhere in the national base set.
Anything engraved to the previous revision is now out of date.
The sentence that changed
The DC conductor warning now reads “DC CONDUCTORS MAY BE ENERGIZED”. The words “Ungrounded and” were removed from the front of it. Our Nova Scotia set does not carry that plate yet — it still has the older “UNGROUNDED AND MAY BE ENERGIZED” wording. Ask for the B-64-200 wording and we cut it on request while it is added to the set; in NSPI territory the utility's wording is the one that governs.
Three plates that exist only here
Nova Scotia Power asks for plates the Canadian Electrical Code does not contain at all. Two of them depend on how the job is built, so they are questions in the builder rather than automatic.
| Plate & rule | Where it goes |
|---|---|
| Maximum inverter output NSP B-64-200 p.1 (inspection-authority requirement) | On or adjacent to the inverter and the main AC disconnect switch. Where micro-inverters are used, required only on the main AC disconnect. Applies to DC string inverter systems. |
| Generator transfer switch caution NSP B-64-200 p.6 (inspection-authority requirement) | At the transfer switch location. |
| Solar panelboard on dual-lug meter base NSP B-64-200 p.6-7 (with 64-112(2)) | On a solar panelboard connected to a dual lug meter base. |
| NSP DC conductors may be energized 64-068(1)(b) / 64-066(7) (NSP B-64-200 wording) | Exterior DC disconnecting means and DC transition boxes. |
The inverter output plate
NSPI wants the maximum inverter output stated in amps, on or adjacent to the inverter and the main AC disconnect. On a microinverter job it is required only on the main AC disconnect. It carries a number off your design, so it cannot be stocked — tell us the figure or send the single-line and we will read it off.
Standby generators
If there is a transfer switch on site, NSPI wants a caution plate at it. That is a separate question in the builder because plenty of Nova Scotia solar jobs have a generator already installed and plenty do not.
262 square inches against Ontario's 272 for the same twenty plates. NSPI's published wording is shorter than the generic text it replaces, so several plates come down a size. Published wording does not always cost more — Saskatchewan's does, this does not.
The bulletin governs where Nova Scotia Power distributes. For a job on another system, the CEC base set applies and the inspector settles wording.
